Board of Management

Our Board of Management provides strategic leadership and oversight to support the Eating Disorder Centre Cork in fulfilling its mission. Board members bring a diverse range of skills, expertise, and experience, helping to ensure the organisation is well governed, financially sustainable, and focused on delivering the highest standard of care and support. Meet the members of our Board below.

Mary Twomey

Chairperson

My background is in mental health nursing. I trained as a psychotherapist in UCC in 2002 and continued to work in the mental health services as an advanced nurse practitioner in psychotherapy up to my retirement from the HSE in 2016. I now have a small private practice. I was delighted to be invited onto the board of EDCC in April 2023 and took on the role of chairperson in September 2023.

Rob Buckley

Director

I am a qualified accountant with experience leading small and large teams in the Retail and Tech sectors. My father (Ray) was one of the founding members of EDCC, and I feel privileged to continue supporting this important nonprofit organisation.

Anne originally worked in business as a data analyst having graduated with an Honours Degree in Commerce from UCC.  Always interested in human behaviour and how the mind works, Anne completed an Arts Degree in Psychology with Dublin Business School on a part-time basis and followed this up with a Diploma in Practitioner Skills for Eating Disorders with the Eating Disorder Resource Centre of Ireland, and a Diploma in Business, Executive and Personal Coaching through the Coach Institute of Ireland.

Anne also holds an Honours Degree in Counselling & Psychotherapy from Cork Institute of Technology (MTU) and a Diploma in Integrative Adolescent Psychotherapy.

Avril Lyons

Secretary

I am self-employed in the hospitality sector and have been for the past eighteen years. At the age of 14, my daughter developed an eating disorder.  As there was nowhere in the Cork area, specialising in eating disorders at that time, to help her, myself along with two other people founded what was then, Shandon Therapy Centre and now is Eating Disorder Centre Cork. (EDCC)

I took a break from the Board some years ago to help with my daughter’s recovery, but I am now back as the Board of Management Secretary.  The BOM is run by a group of dedicated volunteers. EDCC is a great, specialised service with incredibly hard working and devoted therapists, and I am very happy to be involved with this service again.

Lís O’Connor

Board Member

I am a practicing solicitor with significant experience working both in large corporate law firms and in an in-house corporate setting.   I feel privileged to support this important nonprofit organisation offering a vital service in Cork and the wider region.

Sandra James

Undergraduate in Anthropology, my background is multifaceted. I started as an early years educator in France for several years before moving to Ireland, where I shared my time between a store assistant and a gardener position. Today, I am a full-time student at UCC and a part-time store assistant in Skibbereen.Mental health is and has always been a subject close to my heart and I am delighted to be able to help my community as part of the board of the EDCC
