Introduction


Eating disorders are a serious and often fatal mental health condition. They are characterized by severe disturbances to a person’s eating behaviours. Some signs of an eating disorder are; food obsession, body shame/disgust and self-dislike.

Eating disorders are not a choice, but a complex mental health condition.


They are serious, potentially life-threatening conditions that affect a person’s emotional and physical health. They are not a “phase.” And should be taken very seriously. They are real, complex, and devastating conditions that can/do have serious consequences for health, productivity, and relationships. They most often start out as a diet, or an attempt to manipulate ones body shape or weight, but then spiral out of control.

People struggling with an eating disorder need to seek professional help as soon as possible. The earlier treatment starts the greater chance of faster psychological, emotional, and physical recovery.
